Tom Shaevsky

Thomas has over 20 years’ experience practicing ERISA/employee benefits law, and nearly 30 years’ experience practicing law in total. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (J.D. 1992, magna cum laude, The Order of the Coif; Michigan Law Review: Contributing Editor), and the University of Michigan (B.A. 1989, with high distinction, Angell Scholar).

For the past 15 years as an attorney practicing at the law firm of Butzel Long, PC, Mr. Shaevsky has advised clients of all sizes on compliance and planning issues pertaining to a wide range of retirement, pension, and welfare plan issues. His experience includes counseling on fiduciary duty compliance, prohibited transaction avoidance and correction, reporting and disclosure issues, mergers and acquisition due diligence, QDROs, as well as COBRA, HIPAA, and other benefit issues. Mr. Shaevsky has represented clients undergoing IRS and U.S. Department of Labor audits.

Prior to his Butzel Long experience, for six years, Mr. Shaevsky served as in-house to Comerica Bank in its capacity as trustee of retirement plans.
